Flat Feet and Treatment Options

Flat feet occur when the arches are low or collapse, allowing most of the sole to contact the ground. Some people have no symptoms, while others develop fatigue, pain, altered walking mechanics, or stress in nearby joints. Supportive footwear and orthotics may help reduce symptoms.
When significant pain or deformity persists despite conservative treatment, surgery may be discussed. The appropriate approach depends on foot structure, symptoms, activity, and the degree of functional limitation.
